Description
Barbeau is famous for it's Rock Cut on the St Mary's River along the Eastern Edge of the Upper Peninsula of Michigan,
The Rock Cut is a blasted out navigational channel that separates Neebish Island from the Michigan mainland down in Barbeau, Michigan over 15 miles south of the Soo. It is the physically most narrow spot on the St. Marys River outside of the locks. Imagine a lock without any gates or safety booms that is 5,000' long and is 300' wide and is 28'6" deep. It's right below the Neebish Island Ferry crossing, starting at Light 30 and Light 29 along the shipping channel known as the West Neebish Channel. Light 29 is a mandatory downbound call in point to Soo Traffic on marine channel 12. The 'driveway' to the Rock Cut is on your left and kitty corner to the St. Marys River Sportsman Club's clubhouse before you get to the clubhouse which is on your right on Scenic Drive. The St Marys River Sportsman Club's clubhouse is just over three quarters of a mile down the road from the access road to the Neebish Island Ferry dock. It is also just over a mile and a half south of the end of 15 Mile Road where it intersects Scenic Drive.
